Command re-arrests man one year after escaping from detention.

The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Wednesday, said it had re-arrested a 24-year-old man, Ekene Omenyi, who escaped from police cell at the command headquarters in Abakaliki in 2017.

Southern City News gathered that the suspect, who hails from the Oriuzo community in the Ezza North Local Government Area of the state, allegedly escaped from custody alongside one Ogonna Alioka, also known as Pilot, in the night of October 22, 2017.
Our correspondent observed that the suspect was among those apprehended for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 58-year-old woman on January 22, 2017.

It was gathered that Omenyi’s escape from the cell over a year ago led to the dismissal of three policemen, while two others were demoted.

According to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammad Mustafa, Omenyi was re-arrested by the police operatives in Umuahara village following a distress call from an unknown person.
