A mild drama played out on Tuesday in Abuja during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration when Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, snubbed a handshake from outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris.

Saraki’s face-off with Idris was publicly displayed at the National Archade in Abuja where the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held to honour the nation’s fallen heroes.

According to Vanguard, the outgoing police boss had saluted Saraki and was going to stretch his hands for a handshake with the Senate President as it is customarily done when the latter walked away and shook hands with other service chiefs.

The rift between Mr Saraki and Mr Idris can be traced back to when the IGP refused to honour invitations of the Nigerian Senate on three occasions.

Mr Idris had been declared as “an enemy of the state” by the Senate due to his refusal to honour their invitations to discuss what they described as matters of national security.

The IGP and Saraki’s rift reached new height sometime last year when the Senate President accused the police boss of plotting to implicate him in the Offa robbery incident in Kwara State.
